Delicious Beer Mussels (not to be confused with "Beer Muscles")



 Photo Name The name of this delicious mussels recipe refers to the fact that the shellfish is steamed in an aromatic beer broth, and has nothing to do with skinny guys starting trouble in bars late at night. I bartended for a brief time while in culinary school, and it was during this stint that I first heard the expression, "beer muscles."

This refers to a person, usually slight of build, who gets a false sense of physical strength and aggressiveness as they consume beer. By the end of the night, these usually mild-mannered people are ready to take on the biggest, baddest dude in the bar. It's actually quite humorous to watch, as long as they don't actually fight. Anyway, who has time to tussle, when you could be making a batch of these beautiful bivalves? Enjoy!
